In addition to furniture, and cabinetry, I also make small gift items such as cutlery boxes, bowls and other turned objects.
The cutlery boxes are based on an 18th century antique design and are great for carting silverware, napkins and/or condiments from the kitchen to the eating area or deck. These have been sized to fit modern utensils and usually made from off-cuts from larger projects; however, the type of wood and size are both customizable.
Bowls come in all shapes and sizes, from 3" to 20+" in diameter, only limited by the size of the log they come from. I typically use single log sections for bowls for the dramatic look they provide. I use food safe finishes on all bowls and platters. Tung oil and shellac are generally used on the outsides to provide a smooth, soft shine. The insides can be any combination of tung oil, shellac, mineral oil and/or beeswax, depending on the intended use.
